Reading specialists are in demand in Rhode Island classrooms. This program prepares you to unlock the full potential of elementary education for students with reading difficulties. Graduates understand the science of reading and structured literacy, they recognize and gain proficiency in the use of high-quality instructional intervention materials, and they demonstrate skill in data-based decision making.

An MEd in Reading Designed for You

  • for in-service teachers with licensure/certification who wish to pursue additional certification (Reading Specialist/Consultant certification) and/or advanced study
  • for individuals interested in a RIDE approved Literacy/Dyslexia Endorsement
  • for educators required by the Rhode Island Right to Read Act to exhibit proficiency in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy (satisfied by the Literacy/Dyslexia Endorsement)

Admission and Course Information

Literacy/Dyslexia Endorsement

The Literacy/Dyslexia Endorsement is completed by taking three specific continuing education courses within the Reading MED curriculum. These courses are designed for educators who need to show proficiency in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. The training is rigorous and includes applying what is learned in the classroom. After successfully completing the approved pathway through ӣƵ, educators will receive a certificate of completion and can apply to add a Literacy/Dyslexia Endorsement to their teaching certificate for free through RIDE.
